Tom Owens, representing the Village Hall Committee thanked everyone for coming. He thanked Viridor Credits for the grant towards the heating and kitchen. Thanks were also extended to Big Bite who made a contribution to the fund. He then handed over to Peter Williams.
Peter Williams, who represents Kent in Viridor Credits, congratulated the Village Hall committee and supporters, and the Parish Council on the splendid improvements made in the Village Hall in recent years. Viridor Credits were pleased to have contributed nearly £135,000 in five grants since 2007 to various initiatives in the hall, including repairing the roof, a refurbished playground, draining the football field, new tables, chairs and stage curtains and now a kitchen refurbishment and heating system.
Peter said that it gave particular pleasure to see Viridor supporting so many local community initiatives, both linked with the churches at Boughton and Hernhill and the Parish Centre at St Barnabas, the Bowls Club at Boughton and the Village Hall at Dunkirk.
‘Without volunteers, I don’t think our society in the UK would function. We owe volunteers an enormous debt – and it’s great to see the money from Viridor grants being put to such good use, as here, today, at Boughton Village Hall.’
